A SHOCKING ACCIDENT.
SETTLER FALLS UNDER TRAIN. Electric Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, This Day. A shocking accident occurred yesterday afternoon at the Lake Road railway station, between Te Awamutu and Ohaupo, resulting in the almost instantaneous death of Jack Burke, a young and highly-respected settler residing at Kiokio, a few miles from Te Awamutu Deceased was returning home by train from the Ohaupo cattle sale, and was breaking the journey at the Lake Road station. Before the train had fully pulled up tiie deceased jumped on to the platform, and was thrown under the carriage his body being almost severed near the thighs. The victim leaves a young widow and a child two months old. the relatives are well known in tile Taranaki district.
