THE ELECTION CAMPAIGN.
MR MASSEY AT NAPIER. Electric Telegraph—Press Association. Napier, Last Night. Mr W. F. Massey, Leader of the Opposition, arrived in Napier by the mail train to-night, and subsequently addressed a very large meeting of electors in the Theatre Royal, many being unable to gain admittance. Air Massey spoke for nearly two hours on the lines of addresses in other centres. At the conclusion he was accorded a hea.rtv vote of thanks. He leaves to-morrow for the South, and speaks at Winton on Friday night.
A LIBERAL CANDIDATE. Feilding, Last Night. Air R. E. Hornblow, Liberal candidate for the Oroua seat, in a policy speech, supported the Government oil general lines. He showed that taxation bad not gone up as the Opposition alleged. The country had prospered very materially under the Liberal regime. He eulogised the co-op-erative works for railway construction, saying that hut for that system they would not have had such settlements as Alangaweka, Taihape and others. He condemned the Government for giving the Dreadnought before consulting the people. He favoured a national prohibition vote on the bare majority. Air Hornblow received a god. hearing. Other election news appears on page 6. AIR ESCOTT’S CAAIPAIGN. Air Escott addressed a good meeting at Whetukura on Alonday. He received a good hearing and was accorded a vote of thanks. At Hatuma on Tuesday there was a large and enthusiastic meeting and frequent applause. Air Haldane was in the chair. A vote of thanks, proposed by Air A. Alunro and seconded by Air Prentice, was carried. AIR HAWKINS AT AKITIO. Air H awkins addressed a large and enthusiastic meeting at Akitio last night. Air F. Armstrong presided. The candidate spoke for an hour aud a-lialf and answered a number of questions, dealing with the leading political subjects. A motion of thanks for the eloquent and interesting address, projxised by Air Arc Lean and seconded by Air Armstrong, was carried.
