Auckland. This Day. In the action, Commissioner of Crown Lands v. Jas. Darrow, timber merchant, Thames, claim £2500 for value of certain kauri timber, alleged to have been wrongfully removed from unoccupied Crown Lands in the Ohinemuri district, the jury gave a verdict for plaintiff for £IOOO and costs on the highest scale. In the Supreme Court the case Land Commissioners v. the Kauri Timber Company, claim L 1350, value of timber taken from Crown Lands, judgment was by consent for the plaintiff for Lsll and costs. Samuel l)e Pines, a settler at Mongonui, was turning a waggon when it capsized into a creek and the handle of the brake penetrated his heart and caused instant death. Two children who were in the waggon escaped unhurt. A verdict of accidental death was returned at the inquest. Invercargill, This Day.
