Cylinder was a red-hot favourite. The early leaders were Biddy’s Boy, Royal Ruler, and Pomp. Karapoti took charge at the five-furlong post from Cylinder, Ardsus. and Protomint. At the turn, Karapoti was still the leader, followed by Pomp and Cylinder. Cylinder appeared to have a good chance coming up on the outside, but Karapoti stayed splendidly to beat the favourite by half a length. Pomp was two lengths and a-half away third. NEW ZEALAND TROTTING ASSOCIATION.

CHRISTCHURCH, October 3.

The New Zealand Trotting Association to-night granted the application of the Auckland Trotting Club to reduce the stakes for the current year. There was some opposition to the proposal. For the club it was stated that the expenses had been heavy, and it was anticipated that the year might prove a bad one. Mr R. A. Armstrong (Wellington), in supporting the application, said that unless his club was allowed four one-day meetings it would have to apply for permission to reduce the stakes.

SALE OF BLOOD STOCK. . HAMILTON, October 3. At the Waikato annual sale of thoroughbred horses to-day Wiltshire was purchased by Messrs T. C. and Hr W. Wilson for 500 guineas. A two-year-old brother to Wiltshire, at 500 guinea?, and a four-year-old full sister to Wiltshire at 150 guineas, were purchased by Messrs Wilson brothers also. DUNEDIN JOCKEY CLUB. The monthly meeting of the Dunedin Jockey Club, held on Thursday afternoon, was attended by Messrs Hazlett (chairman), E. H. Lough, A. N. Smith, J. A Ainge, B. S. Irwin, W. F. Edmond James Smith. W. J. Coughlan. and Dr Ross. The following Judicial. Committee was appointed for the spring meeting: — Messrs Hanlon, Ainge. Lough. Coughlan. and Dr Ross.

It was resolved to alter the parking arrangements in the members’ motor enclosure by making all cars back in, and to have one-way traffic only for cars leaving the parking area. The list of complimentary tiokeU-. usually issued for the club’s meeting, was gone through, when it was resolved that complimentary tickets for one and twoday clubs should be issued to the president and secretary only, and that stewards of one and two-day clubs may have complimentary tickets for Cup day.

The chairman of the Track Committee reported that the new track had been resown and bad been measured. The track would be seven furlongs and 118 yards The secretary reported that all arrangements for the race meeting next week had been completed.

FORBURY PARK TROTTING CLUB.

A meeting of the Forbury Park Trotting Club’c Committee was held on Thursday evening in the club’s boardroom. Mr B. S. Irwin (president) occupied the chair, and there were also present Messrs James Mitchell, H. Archbold, W. Coughlan, A Clarke, R. Telfer, J. Trengrove, John Mitchell, J. Richardson. J. Black, A. G. Neill, and G. Barton. The Otago A. and P. Society wrote thanking the club for its donation of £lO 10s for prizes at the Summer Show. The suggestion that the money should be used for trotting events had been notefl. A further letter stated that two events fo; trotters had been arranged, and the club, was asked to nominate two members, one of whom would be appointed by tinsociety to judge the events. The letters were received and Messrs John and James Mitchel] were nominated

The secretary of the New Zealand Trotting Conference wrote stating that the Northland Trotting Club, was recommended by the conference to race on October 18, instead of Labour Day, now wished to race on January 29. 1931. It was desired to know whether the Forbury Park Club was likely to raise anv objection.—lt was decided to reply t! ..’ the club offered no objection. The Invercargill Trotting Club wrote asking if the committee knew of any rea-' son why a professional license to ride, drive, and train trotting horses should not be granted to W. Grant. The letter was received, and the secretary was instructed to reply that the committee knew of no reason.

It was decided to make a donation of £3 3s to the Gore Agricultural and Pastoral Association for the light harness section. The recommendation from the annual meeting that a trophy be procured for the Gore Trotting Cup was adopted. It was resolved that the stakes be reduced »by £2OO, leaving a total of £l7OO plus two trophies of an aggregate value of £35.
