A number of J. T. Jamieson’s team at lakanini are coming on well. Refresher, litree, Treasury, and Havaspot should be ready to race upon their trainer’s return from Sydney. Prince Humphrey is among those being worked, but he looks a doubtful proposition, and may not stand a preparation. Mr T. Impey’s team at Takanini has had a change of trainers, F. Smith having taken over Envoy, Camp Prince, Camp Princess, and the Lucullus—Holvmond two-year-old.

lhe two-year-old Our Comet, who was taken to Australia by A. Rhodes, has just won his first race at Geelong. He is a fine young horse that will do further good service for his owner if all goes well with him.

Supremacy showed at Avondale that - rep l * llB the fine speed that characterised his efforts as a two-year-old. He was off the scene for more than a year before competing at Avondale, and those who witnessed his effort are already selecting him as a likely winner of the Railway Handicap. Nassock is by no means a class horse, but he is a good plugger that might have a chance if the field is not a strong one. Pennyplain’s absence from the Ellerslie meeting was due to a fetlock injury. It is in his favour that he has been put to hurdling while still young, and he may earn good stake money at coming fixtures. J. Chisholm has Llanore looking and working well. This mare may not be up to metropolitan class, bu.t Chisholm may be able to place her to advantage at minor fixtures.

Two maidens at Ellerslie that are coming oil nicely are Operatic and Kairangapar. Both have a fine turn of speed, and it is merely a matter of condition for them to join the ranks of winners. Operatic does not seem to handle bad ground, but conditions can be Expected to improve rapidly from now on. The Australian-owned pair, Aussie and Trevallian, are still spelling at Takanini. J. hey have improved wonderfully since commencing their holiday, and no doubt their owner will be pleased with them when they return. Eager Rose was not doing anything out of the way before Ellerslie, but she is coming on gradually. Her turn may • as she is at a handy place in the weights, and is certainly above the average.
