PESSIMISM DEPRECATED.
STATEMENT BY SIR OTTO NIEMEYER.
CHRISTCHURCH, September 21. Declaring that there was no occasion for any pessimism regarding the position of New Zealand, Sir Otto Niemeyer, who arrived in Christchurch to-day, en route to the Hermitage, said that this country was more happily situated than most other countries. Sir Otto said he did not feel sure that rock-bottom had been reached in the present world depression, and he was not prepared to say that the values of our primary products had reached their lowest point; but he did not think that there was any justification for despondency.
