HARRIERS.

COMBINED HARRIERS’ MEETING. WANGANUI, August 28. The Masterton and Wanganui harrier clubs held a team race over a" five-mile course yesterday afternoon, Wanganui winning the trophy for the first time. Masterton were without the services of Rose, and Wanganui were without Gibbons. The course was very heavy owing to the recent rains. The 'following were the results:—Clarke (Wanganui) 1, Moore (Wanganui) 2, Poynter (Masterton) 3, Gudsell (Wanganui) 4, Lewis (Masterton) 5, Henderson (Masterton) 6, Warbill (Mastertoil) 7, Moyan (Wanganui) 8. PACIFIC. The Pacific harriers, after having the club photo taken, held their weekly run from the George Street School. Paper was dispensed with, and the pack, under the whistle of Captain Mouat, set off at a good pace along George street to the Woodhaugh Gardens, passing through them till the reservoir was reached. Here the captain and deputy captain picked sides, and an enjoyable game of football was played. The pack then turned towards home, passing through the Woodhaugh Gardens to the Leith Valley road. From there a fast run home resulted in Fish, Bowers, Smith, and Mouat being prominent. CAVERSHAM. The Caversham harriers held their run from the St. Clair baths. Thirty-one runners turned out to follow the paper laid by W. Holley and A. G. Hubbard. The trail led up to the St. Clair golf links, and continued on to Burnside, thence on to the Main South road and back past the golf links, down on to Allandale road. From here a run home was held, which resulted in Woods, Tapp, and Mills, C. Hubbard and M‘Connell finishing in that order, closelv followed by Inglis, Cameron, and Caradus. CIVIL SERVICE. The Civil Service harriers held a twomile cycle handicap and two field events during the interval of the League football match. Nine competitors faced the starter in the cycle race, and with half the distance covered Johnson (150yds) was leading from M’Millan (scr), Scott (100yds), and Fogarty (80yds). With two laps to go the scratch man, M’Millan, took the lead from Fogarty and Johnson, and stayed with the other two till a furlong from home, when he went right away to win by 20yds from Fogarty, with Johnson 10yds away, third. Result: I. H. M’Millan (scr), 1; J. Fogarty (80yds), 2; R. A. Johnson (150yds), 3. Time, smin 58sec.

High Jump.—G. M’Dowell (6in), 4ft Sjin, 1; J. Smolensk! (4in), 4ft Bin, 2; G. Cox (4in). 4ft 7jin, 3. Putting 161 b Shot. —B. R. M’Kewen (sft handicap). 29ft sin, 1 : G. Cox (Ift 9in), 28ft 9in, 2; L. C. M’Lachlan (4ft), 27ft 9in, 3. ST. PATRICK’S. The St. Patrick harriers ran from the Sacred Heart School, North-East Valley. A large pack under the whistles o? Captain II M’Donnell and Deputy Captain L J. Williams, set out for the Brown House, via Signal Hill. On the way an impromptu sports meeting was held, several new members showing up as sprinters. The Brown House being reached the trail then led down through Bethune’s Gully, the run being terminated by a fast run home in which J. T. M’Donnell, F. Allen, and A. Brown were very prominent.

LEITH. Leith harriens ran from Leith Valley school. The paper was in the capable hands cf R. Watson and J. W. Buchanan. The pack, under control of Captain L. Potter and Acting Deputy A. Williams, followed the trail up the Leith road to the foot of Stony Ford, where the pipeline was followed for about a mile and a-half. After climbing a steep slope of dense bush the pack was brought out cn to some good cross-country, which was traversed over the hill to Bishop’s road, and then up Leith road to the school. ST. KILDA. The St. Kilda Club ran its four-mile championship and sealed handicap from Forbury Park. The course from the north gate followed along the Victoria road to St. Clair, and around the Esplanade, leturning along Victoria road as far rs Parker's, turning up into “Lovers’ Lane,’’ and along the lane as far as Tahuna Park, coming out on the Tomahawk road, and turning down Gilfillan street to Bowen street, then returning along Queen’s Drive to the park. Mr Ben Rosevear started a field of 12 runners. Coming back from St Clair, J. Auld, J. Dunn, and J. Morris were running together with a lead of 150yds. S. Dunn, running fourth, was going well. Returning along Queen’s drive the runners were still in the same order. At Moreau street J. Morris sprinted from J. Dunn, and won by 15yds with J. Auld about 20yds behind J Dunn. Results: — Four-mile Championship.—J. Morris, 1: J. Dunn, 2; J. Auld, 3. Sealed Handicap.—S. Dunn, 1; E. Lawrence, 2 ; J. Viney, 3. ANGLICAN. The Anglican Club held their run from Port Chalmers. Paper was dispensed with, and the runners, all in one pack, set out with Captains Suckling and Green at the front and rear. The course led from the upper station to the top road, and later returned to the railway line, where some distance of good running track was covered, and bursts of speed indulged in, in view of sprint events next week Reaching Mihiwaka the bpttom road was gained, and the run home commenced from Carey’s Bay ; Gray, Cox, Rolfe, and Taylor were prominent. CARGILL ROAD METHODIST.

The Cargill Road Methodist harriers held their run from the St. Clair baths.

Tlie hares, N. Blackburn and N. Newbold set out shortly after 3 o’clock, leading a trail along the beach, and about 10 minutes later were followed by a slow pack, under the whistle of Deputy Captain Barclay Another 10 minutes elapsed before the fast pack started out, under Captain R. Graves. The trail led alon' th e beach to Lawyers’ Head, then on to the Tomahawk road, branching off round tlie lagoon, and then back on to the road The slow pack set a fast pace down the track to St. Kilda, where the run home started, E. 1. Ridley and R. Saunders finishing just behind the hares, the fast pack coming in a few minutes later.
