Magpies quite commonly attack hawks, when the hawk is outnumbered, but -rarely does a magpie tackle its larger enemy single-handed. Such an unusual event was observed by a Wanganui farmer the other day. The two birds fought with much spirit (says the Herald). A few feathers fell, but the result was apparently a draw.
