MINING.

THE WEEK’S NEWS. ALEXANDRA DEEP LEAD COMPANY. The operations of the Alexandra Deep Lead Company have been somewhat hampered of late owing to the absence of adequate power. A paddock has been opened up by hydraulic means, approximately a chain square and down to the 10ft level, but owing to the supply of water failing, a- change over was made to electric power. However, the motor and pump were too mall to be effective, and the manager, Mr Hamer, suspended operations until larger equipment is Installed, when it is hoped quickly_to remove the remaining few feet of ■urface silt and commence tunnelling. With this in view, the props and timber have been cut, and tramway and tail-race constructed, so with the arrival of the equipment the work can be put in hand immediately. DUNEDIN STOCK EXCHANGE.
