STABBED IN THE STOMACH.

MAN SEVERELY INJURED. POLICE INVESTIGATING. Robert Johnstone, of 14 Cargill stre'', was found on Sunday evening at the .* of King and Frederick streets with a severe wound in the stomach. Passers-by at about 6.30 p.m. were attracted to the spot by the groans of a man obviously in great pain. Several people went to the spot and found Johnstone lying on the pavement in a condition bordering on unconsciousness. Inquiries fell on deaf ears, the injured man being inoapable of answering any questions. From delirious moanings it was gathered that he had been the victim of a stabbing affray. He reiterated time and again tne fact that he had been stabbed, but no inkling as to the identification o i his assailant could be gathered from his semi-conscious mutterings. Willing hands conveyed the sufferer to the Hospital across the street, where it was found that his stomach injuries necessitated an immediate operation. At a late hour last evening the Hospital authorities reported that he was still under the influence of the anaesthetic, but that so far it had not been found necessary to place the patient on the dangerously ill list. Further particulars from the hospital or the police were not available last evening. Detectives visited the Hospital, but could glean little information that would Lhrowu any light on the incident
