June B.—Since I last wrote the plain has been favoured with fine weather, ami u« water is gradually receding. Jack it rost has been abroad this week, and the thermometer registered 12 degrees of frost, last nioht. Despite the prophets, no more floods have occurred, although one was predicted for June 3. “There were three floods in 1317,” say the wiseacres, “so there will be three this year.” But if we escape for the remainder of the winter it may happen that we shall never have another flood, lor the big men were around viewing the damage for themselves. . Meeting. —A meeting was held m the Momona Hall on Saturday night to discuss this same flood question. The meeting was well attended, the opinions expressed were sound, and the verdict was practically unanimous. The decision arrived at was that the Government should be asked to take steps to prevent a recurrence of tlie flood, and that these steps should be taken at the Government’s expense. Wedding—A very pretty wedding took place at Allanion Church on Tuesday afternoon, when Mr A. M’Huttie and Miss Swanson were joined in the bonds of wedlock The bride was given away by her brother Mr E. Swanson. The ceremony which was witnessed bv a large number of interested spectators, was performed by the Rev D M’Cosh. In the evening the wendin" guests assembled in the Momona Hall where the usual toasts were honoured, and dancin" continued till the small hours. School Exhibit—The local school had some small success at the Winter Show and school garden competitions, taking first prize tor beet first for swede turnips, eecond for carrots, and third for potatoes. The collection of twelve distinct kinds oi vegetables was very highly commended.
