ITALIAN SOCIALISM

A QUAINT SITUATION

LONDON. September 17. Fite Daily Chronicle’s Rome correspondent states that a quaint situation lias arisen at Milan, where there is a Socialist City Council. There was a fire at GrecoMilano, which is served bv the Milanese Fire Brigade. A call was sent, but Milan replied that it would not send lire engines, as Greco-Milano had not paid for the last fire services. Greco-Milano telephoned other towns, which all responded that if Greco-Milano would not pay Milan it would not pay them. Meanwhile the fire was burning merrily. Finally a town councillor at Greco-Milano became security for the debt, and the Milan Brigade rushed to the scene and put out the Tro after great damage had been done. The Greco-Milano Council is Communist, and, like the Milanese Council, is hopelessly insolvent.
