THE MEAT TRADE.

LONDON, September 15. 1 lie Royal Commission on the importation of store cattle reports that the admission of Canadian store cattle is ad- \ i sable, as it would tend to cheapen in some measure the meat supply of the country, and tend to promote the restoration and, indeed, the increase in numbers of live stock after the losses during and since the war. The commissi m finds that feeling is general among fanners against the admission ~o far as this is created by the apprehension that foot-and-mouth disease may be introduced. The commission considers this fear to be unfounded, but admission might make it difficult for the crofters (small farmers in the Highlands) to carry on operations successfully. and would to some extent deprive Irish farmers of the market they at present enjoy in Great Britain.

NEW YORK, September 15. The Chicago Meat Racking Trust (Armour, Swift, \\ i lson . and Cudahv) has established the “ open shop.” and notified the trade unions that henceforth only nonunionists will be employed and only nonunion officials will be dealt with.' The trust announces that 90 per cent, of the 7500 employees voted in favour of the plan.
