NATIONAL BANK The forty-eighth ordinary general meeting of proprietors of the National Bank of New Zealand was held in London on July 7, and the profit and lo3s account figures were given briefly in the cable messages at the time. Further particulars have now arrived by mail, and show that the year which ended on March 31 last was a prosperous one for the bank, the net profit being £277,898 9s lOd, as compared with £186,882 13s 9d for the previous year. The balance brought forward from the last year's accounts was £64,932 8a 6d, making £321,230 18s 4d available for appropriation. The directors allocated £21,600 for a bonus to the staff, £30,000 to premises account, and £65,000 to reserve for depreciation of investments. Of the remainder_£20,000 was transferred to reserve fund, making the total of that fund £1,020,000.; £SOOO was transferred to pensions and gratuity funds, and the dividend of 12 per cent, and bonus of 2 per cent, absorbed £131 ; 657 12s, leaving £89,573 6s 4d to be carried) forward. The paid-up capital of the bank stands at £1,000,000. STANDARD INSURANCE CO. The annual report of the directors of the Standard Fire and Marine Insurance Company of Zealand states that the net income for tne year ended June 30, 1920, amounts to £177,647 lis Bd, and the expenditure to £153,531 Is Id, leaving a balance of £24,116 10a 7d, to which has to be added the'balance carried forward from last year — viz., £6216 14s lid, making a total of £30,333 5s 6d. From this amount an interim dividend was paid in March, absorbing £6250, leaving an available balance of £24,083 5s 6d, which, the 'directors have dealt with in the following manner: —Placed to reserve fund £IO,OOO, and recommend that the balance be appropriated as follows: —Pay a dividend for the half-year ended 30th June, 1920, at is 6d per share, absorbing £7500, and carry forward £6583 5s 6d to next year.
