HOCKEY.
At a meeting of the Canterbury Hookey Association it was decided to mark the celebration of peace by removing all the suspensions imposed on players under its jurisdiction. GISBORNE, August 14. The match between Poverty Bay and Howke's Bay was won by the former by five goals to nil. QUESTION OP INTER-ISLAND MATCH. CHRISTCHURCH, August 23. At a meeting of the executive of the New Zealand Hockey Association communications were received from various clubs on the question of holding an inter-island competition this year. The proposal was 'favoured by Otago, Canterbury. South Canterbury, and Hawke's Bay, while Waikato and Auckland were against it. It was resolved, owing- to the uncertainty of the travelling arrangements, that the qitestion of holding an inter-island match this year be abandoned, and that the matter be considered at the next annual meeting. LADIES' HOCKEY. The annual tournament for B and C Grade teams arranged by the Otago Ladies' Hockey Association was held at Jubilee Park on Saturday, when a number of interesting games were witnessed-. Good form was shown throughout. Messrs Hayward, Scott, Long, and Webb acted as referees for the various matches. The following are the results of the games: First Round. « Girls' High School I (2 goals) beat Columba II (nil). Girls' High Schood II (2 goals) beat Momona (nil). Waiata (1 goal) beat Otago (nil). Taieri (2 goals) beat Columba I (nil) Normal (1 goal) beat Ravenabourne (nil). Second Round. Girls' High School I (3 goals) beat Girls' High School II (2 goals). Taieri (1 goal) beat Waiata (nil). Third Round. Girls' High School I (3 goals) beat Normal (1 goal). Final. Girls' High School I (2 goals) beat Taieri (1 goal). The tourney was a " knock-out" one—i.e., once a team was b»nten that team was out of the competition.
