THE DOMINION TOURNAMENT. AUCKLAND, January 8. The Dominion Bowling Tournament commenced to-day in overcast weather. The Singles were begun on nine greens. Five rounds were played to-day, and will be continued to-morrow morning. In the afternoon the offipial opening -was held on Itemuera Green. Forty-eight clubs and over 400 bowlers are participating. January 9. .The bowling tournament, which was delayed by rain at the end of the third round yesterday, was continued to-day. . The weather was fine but overcast. Play in the Singles Championship was advanced a further stage, and will bo continued after the competition of the full rinks and the pairs. At the conclusion of to-day's play only ono competitor, Professor Maxwell-Walker (Ponsonby} stood without a loss. Five others still remain in the competition with one loss each. These are—Coltman (Carlton), Spetter (Greymouth), Wooller (Remuera), Mantell (Carlton): and Sharp (Stratford). A representative team of Auckland bowlers played a team representing visitors, and Auckland won the game by 436 points to 358. January 10. The bowling tournament- was continued to-day in fine weather. Tho Singles have not been completed. The advanced matches are being played as opportunity offers. Tho Pairs Competition was begun. There are 264_ competitors in this championship, comprising 132 pairs, and including some of the strongest combinations in New Zealand. The players were sprit into 22 sections, and only three rounds were completed. The remaining two rounds will be completed to-morrow, and in the afternoon a beginning will be made with the intersectional play. •. The full rinks will be commenced on Monday. January 12. The Dominion Bowling Tournament was continued yesterday, when tho Pairs section play was concluded. The finals will be played after the full-rink competition, which commences on Monday. A large number of play-offs were necessary in order to reveal the winners of the sections. Wvlie (Te Hiwi); Q section—Rosemond and Hueston (Gisborne): R section —Tilley and Lundon (Wanganui); S section—Brown and Woolf (United); T section—Dix and Julian (Tekuitij; U section —Colling and Truscott (Waikino); W section—Robson and Haldane (Nelson); section Y—Garrard and Bailey (Remuera).
