MANSLAUGHTER.
WELLINGTON. January 8. Thos. Albrecht was before the Magistrate's Court to-day, charged 'with manslaughter, concerning the death of his mother. Evidence was given to the effect that during a quarrel the accused struck his mother, who afterwards died. The accused pleaded not guilty, and was committed for trial.
At tho civio -welcome to the French' mission at Ashburton on Wednesday the Mayor (Mr R. Galbraith) announced that a donation of £IOO had been received by General Pau from the estate of a deceased Ashburton soldier buried in France, for the French Orphan Fund. The general gratefully acknowledged the gift. - '
