ERMEDALE (Southland).

June 3.—" He that kecpeth his tongue keepeth his life" was 'the tono that pervaded the social held on Friday evening for the purpose of saying good-bye to Mr and Mrs M'Callum and family. Mr and Mrs M'Callum have been here a little over two years, and during that time have not been known to "repeat a matter," and in that way separate chief friends, and only those who live in a closely-settled community know tho value of. They have been particularly good neighbours, and when there was any trouble or illness Mr and Mrs M'Callum were the right ones in the right place, and will be very much missed. During their residence here they have been on nearly every farm in Ermedale helping with the harvest. During other parts of the year their horses and implements were at the disposal of any who needed them, and if their assistance was asked for in any way it was most readily given. They have also been very industrious and very good farmers, and what is Ermedale's loss is Ferdnalo's gain. Mr D. Mitchell presided. Mr W. Fordo epoke of the popularitv of the M'Callum farnilv, and said he was very pleased that leaving the district meant promotion, although they were sorry to lose such good neighbours, and would like to voice tho sentiments of those present that they would be successful in their new homo and have a good measure of success. Mr A. Mann spoke of Mr M'Callum as a neighbour and a member of the School Committee. The following took part in the musical portion of the programme:— Mesdames Stalker and Anderson, Misses M'Callum, K. Fordo, M'lntyre. Ewens. Messrs H. Piayfair, Stalker, Mitchell, 8011. Mann, and Wallace.
