ARMY RUGBY.

VICTORY FOR NEW ZEALAND. (From Ode Own Correspondent ) LONDON. October 30. A team representing the New Zealand Mounted Rifles, on Salisbury Plain, met on Saturday a team from tho v officers of two reserve cavalry regiments. The match was played on tho polo ground at Tid worth, and was a striking exhibition of bustling forwards versus clever backs. v With tho slope of tho ground favouring them, the New Zealand forwards repelled the Cavalry throughout the first spell, being eoiitinuousiv in their twenty-five. It was only the hard kicking of tho Cavalry backs that saved them. Half an hour from the kick-off Phillipeon (New Zealand) got the ball from tho scrum .five yards from tho lino and scored, but failed with tho luck. From the kick-out- they again compelled Cavalry to force. Gilray, of tho English side, was particularly brilliant' in finding tho lino. In tho second spell the New Zealanders again sorely taxed their opponents, and, following a kicked goal by Wilson, the Cavalry full back was compelled to force down. After the kick-out New Zealand pressed again, but a hard kick robbed them of a certain try. The Cavalry now changed their tactics, and by kicking high and following-up attacked the New Zealand lino more than once, New Zealand replying by Hardy scoring a second try, but Weaver failed at the goal. New Zealand again attacked vigorously, but tho Cavalry, by a combined movement, scored the bast try of the day in the corner. It Was not converted, and for tho remaining five minutes of the game the play was desperately hard, New Zealand winning by 6 points to 3. * Tho following were the New Zealand team:—Carter. Scott. Ritchie, Wilson, Hewett, Weaver, Phillipsoir, Hennessy, Harrison, Johnstone. Hiinter, Scorrer, Binnie, Hardy, Little (captain). At Oxford, Radley -played what is doscrihed as the strongest team in OxfordWadham College Cadets. It is composed .chiefly of New Zoalanders in training for their commissions, and has only had one try scored against it this season. ; The game ended: Cadets 35, Radley. nil. Radley was conspiciously good in tackling. February 10.
