ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY. A meeting of the council of the Otago Acclimatisation Society was held on tho 28th. Mr G. W. MTntosh (president) occupied the chau\ "The Curator of the hatcheries at Clinton reported that all the young golden pheasants had died during the recent stormy weather.' The four young Cape Barren geese were now nearly and if it was intended to liberate these birds this ought to be done at any time now. There were six Canadian geese, eight Cape Barren goese, three golden and one diamond pheasant in stock on January 20. With respect to fish, he reported that the ponds had now been repaired and stocked with fry. The work of further distribution of fry had been held up through various causes. The greater part of those sent to Central O'tago had been liberated with difficulty, chiefly owing to the farmers being busy with shearing operations. The main difficulty was in getting the fry transported from the railway stations to the streams selected for their liberation. Now that shearing was practically completed there should be little trouble in getting the remainder liberated. A larger pond should bo constructed for the Lake Hawea trout, which were at present confined to a pond which was not large enough to carry half the number in stock. Some fish meal was required, as stocks were becoming short. — The report wap- received. Tne Game Committee recommended that the council approve of the principle of each society haying the option of permitting the use of cylinders in its districts. It further recommended that application be made to the Minister ; of Internal Affairs for the usual permit' to allow, the culling of old and malformed deer until December 31 in districts where culling was allowed.— Adopted. The Angling Committee recommended that a new pond at Clinton be gone on with, and that Mr M'Lay be engaged to assist with the work. The committee further recommended that an inspection be made of the Leith Stream, with a view to locating a suitable place for a trap for the purpose of "obtaining spawn. —Adopted. Tho Chairman intimated that they now had two maps of Lake Logan—one show-

ing a proposal to set aside 20 acres for the purpose of a lake, and the other a lake of about three acres. Ho hoped that tho council would have an opportunity before long of meeting the Harbour Board in conference on this subject, and that some finality would be arrived at. Accounts amounting to £4O 4s 6d were passed for payment.
