Tho report of tho committee of the Dunfedin Athonseum, which, is to ho presented at tho annual meeting of subscribers, contains tho following clauses: —The receipts for the year from all sources amounted to £1484 14s 4d, and tho expenditure to £I4OO 18s Bd. Tho debit balance, which, at the Slose of 1916, was £ll2 18s 4d, was reduced y £B3 15s Bd, and now stands at £29 2Bd. Tho average membership for the yea; ftvus 1706, as against 1699 for tho previou. year. Tho library now contains 24,'lit
works, represented by 28,229 volumes. The total number of issues of books from the Library during tho year was 75,431 —an increase of 12,873 over tho number fox 1916. Tho details of the issuo for the year just closed are as follow: Science, 119; useful arts, 1031 fine and recreative arts, 102; social and political science, 306; philosophy and religion, 161; history and geography, '326; biography and correspondence, 1388; language and literature, 51; poetry and Irama, 178; miscellaneous works (including magazines in book form), 414: fiction, ,0,333.
