A deputation from the Tuhoe Maoris interviewed tho Hon. Mr Wilford (Minister of Justice) to-day, requesting a remission of Rua's sentence, which will expire in August next. They promised loyalty, stating that they had sent men to the front, and were willing to send more. The Hon. Mr Wilford said he had seen Rua, who promised not to claim to possess any power above the lav.'. Rua's conduct in gaol had been exemplary, and in view of tnat and the Maoris' evidence of loyalty, he would bring Rua's case betoro the frisona Board and recommend his release on finding sureties for good behaviour.
