OAMARU.

September 3.—We had a week of keen, cold wer.th.er, with a day or fwo of warm sunshine. On Saturday afternoon last if began to rain light showers, and it continued off and en, light and heavy, till last ni«rht. To-day the skv is overcast, and no sunshine; but it looks like clearing up. ring. School Concert. —A very fine performance in aid of the Middle School was held in Hayward's Picture Palace last Thursday even : ng. The ; toms were many and varied, and took over two and a-half hours to render. There was a big gathering, downstairs b?ing full up and upstairs comfortably filled. The first part of the programme was given by the school children. Fourteen gills and nine boys between five and six yrars contributed" 'he first item, and 23 girls and 20 boyj from Standards 111 to VI gave the second item, and three other items by combinations of the above. A solo was given by Beatrice Benjamin and a recitation by Fred Ward. The accompanimen's were played by one of the school girls. D. H.

Thomson a concert party, the- members of which have freely given their services to patriotic work in town and country, gave tho second and third parts of the programme. There were songs, solos, quartets, duets by Messrs D. H. Thomson, H. Grenfell, J. I/. Steel (violin), W. Brown, A. Glass, G. "Whalo (comet), and Misses ColleLt (2), and Misses -Bee and Ramsay assisted in the choruses. Miss Irw Ramsay (Duncdin) gave, a musical monologue. The concert party then appeared in a modified nigger minstrel turn. There were, as usual, local jokes, with plantation melodies and choruses. Mis 3 Glen was the accompanist. A vote of thanks to the performers and the singing of tha National Anthem closed the proceedings.
