WAIROA (Hawka's Bay).
August 29.—The organist of tho Wairoa Presbyterian Church (Mrs J. P. Haughton) was surprised on Friday evening by a. visit from the members of the church choir, who assembled to show their grateful appreciation of that lady's excellent co-operation at church services and practices. The presentation was made by the conductor (Mr John Bowie, 8.A.), who made special reference to the excellent, spirit of cordial cooperation that, existed among the members of the choir, and especially on the part of the organist. Although the choir is suffering from a scarcity of m:>!e members, it is still continuing to render faithful service >o the church The members of the choir : pent a most enjoyable musical evening at Mrs Haughton's.
Dairy Factory.--The Wairoa Dairy Factory is paying a dividend this year of 7 per cent, to shareholders and a bonus of Id a- Jb to suppliers Obituary.— A returned soldier, Private Arthur Steed, of the Eleventh Reinforcements, died on Saturday of pneumonia. Ho was buried on Sunday, the W. J. Simkin officiating at the graveside. He had formerly been wounded in France by shrapnel.
