ETTRICK.
April 16. —Autumn is upon us, and the ■weather has been exceptionally seasonable, enabling the aj>plo crop to be gathered in good condition. There will be eome splendid samples oE apples from this district. Great interest is being taken in the forthcoming Apple Show, and the district exhibit promises to be a conspicuous display. Growth generally is good throughout the district, and autumn-sown grass and rye arc showing up well, also the turnip crop. The Fruitgrowers’ Association held the first annual meeting on the 7th inst., when there was a thoroughly representative attendance. The association has now got fairly going, and the growers realise that it will be of considerable benefit to them. Farewell Social.—The patriotic spirit is still well maintained in the district. Two young men, R. Hamilton and W. Foster, left to join the Twenty-eighth Reinforcements. A farewell social was tendered to them on the 3rd inst., when there was a very successful gathering. A presentation of a wristlet watch was made to each. Church Affairs.—Church services continue to be well attended. A committee has been formed to look after the interests of the Presbyterian Church.—Rev. Mr Featherston, the newly-appointed minister for the Methodist Church, had his opening service on Sunday, when there was a good attendance.
