PENINSULA SHOW

The annual show of the Peninsula Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held on Saturday at Portobello, in the presence of a large attendance. The entries were particularly good, and were larger than those received last year. The quality of the exhibits generally was good, but thero were one or two classes in which the animals did not come up to the real type of the breed they represented. Particularly was this so in connection with the Holsteins. The fat sheep were exceptionally fine, the judge (Mr M. Moynihan) expressing the opnion that they would have won prizes at any of the metropolitan shows. The springdray and spring-cart horses were the strongest classes in the show, and the competition was very keen. The draughts were good for the district, while the light horses were up to the standard of previous shows. CATTLE. In the Shorthorn section, Mr A. Clark, jun., swept the board with some very fine animals, while in Hoistcin cattle Messrs Stewart Bros, scored five wins and two seconds out of the seven classes judged, the other competitors —Messrs F. E. Hellyer and D. D. Morrison -each securing a red ticket for their exhibit in the crossbred cow and crossbred heifer sections respectively. Messrs Weir Bros, and Mr C. Weir, between them, annexed all the prizes awarded for Ayrshires, with the execption of the prize for yearling bull, which went to Mr R' Black, the only competitor. Messrs Weir Bros, were awarded championship for bull three years and over, and the championship for cow. Mr F. E. Hellyer won all the principal prizes in the Jersey classes, including the championship for bull and cow. Mr A. Clark was third in the class for heifers, two years (dry), and Mr G. A. Smith second in the two-year-old bull class. SHEEP. The entry of sheep was not. large, being confined to the classes for fat sheep and lambs. In the former there were four entries, Mr J. W. Shepard securing a first award and Mr 11. Allan second and h-c. For the best pen of five fat lambs, there were four entries, and Mr C. Cross was awarded first and second prizes for an exceptionally fine exhibit.
