NEW ZEALAND ATHLETIC AND CYCLING UNION.
The monthly meeting of the N.Z.A. and Cycling Union, held on tho 21st, was attended by Messrs A. Polwarth (president,, in the chair), A. Campbell, A. Ureaver, J. Carroll, D. Teller, an* D. F. M'Kay (secretary). Correspondence was received _ from the secretary of the Berwick Caledonian Society and from tho secretary of the Heriot Athletic Club, relative to their ceasing affiliation with the union. These letters had been before a previous meeting, and were referred to the Executive Committee for consideration. —The action of these bodies was discussed, and Mr Campbell moved that they be again written to urging them to reconsider their determination. —Mr Telfer seconded the motion. —Mr Carroil said the union was doing the best it could in the interests of sport, and tho bodies declining affiliation knew quite well the benefits they derived from their connection with . tho union. He moved that in accordance with rule 25, the officers and competitors connected with the Heriot and Herwick Societies bo disqualified. If those bodies felt themselves agrieved they could write to the union asking a mitigation of the penalties. If they were allowed to go out of the union there would be no control of athletic bodies at all.—Mr Dreaver seconded the amendment, which was carried. The secretary's report showed that he had forwarded to affiliated bodies particulars of the business transacted at the annual meeting, and of the disqualification of John Curry and R. J. Murray (Heriot) during the pleasure of the union.—Adopted. Messrs Polwarth, Carroll, Dreaver, _ and the secretary (D. F. M'Kay) were appointed an Emergency Committee to deal with matters requiring prompt attention; tho same committee to act as a "points" committee.
The Secretary reported a credit balance in the*bank of £ls 2s 7d. Accounts amounting to £3 3s 6d were passed for payment, and the president and secretary were authorised to sign cheques on behalf of tho union.
