On the 15th inst. a number of Rangiora and Loburn sportsmofi took part in a hare drive over the estates of Messrs J. 11. Ensor ißydal Downs), G. 11. Ensor (White Rock), and M'Cracken Bros. (Hr.ylands). The result of the day's Sport was 117 hares, which were sent to Beltast for the benefit of the wounded soldiers.

The Dunedin Anglican Harriers held an unmeasured mile open race on Saturday afternoon at St. Kikia over the cinder track leading past the Central Battery. Eight competitors faced the starter, and the placed men were F. 11. Elsom, scr, 1; T. Paterson, 15sec, 2; V. Fail, 20scc, 3. Elsom, running a well-judged race, went to the front about 100 yards from home, and, though hotly pursued by Patcrson, won by seven or eight vards. Fail being a good third. Time, sm'n 28 2-ssec. The club was afterwards entertained at afternoon tea by Mr Percy Brcen. The opening run of the newly-formed Harrier Club in connection with the Otago Boys-' High School was held from the school baths on Saturday. The regular meeting of the council of the Otago Acclimatisation Society, held on the 26th, was attended by Messrs G. W. M'lntosh (president), Baker, Ogilvie, C. Wilson, A. E. Jenkins, Brinsley, O. IS. Jenkins, Cousins, and Cowie. Mr Steven, writing on the 25th inst., stated that the ova collected from the Water of Leith on Thursday night was 167.0C0. Ho had received 21,000 ova from Mr Pellett. Received. Mr J. Steven, reporting as to the game in hand, staled that it was all healthy and thriving. Reporting on Loch Lcven, Scotch Burn, and Brook trout, he stated that for the first time in his experience these had boon stripped nncl returned to their respective ponds within a week, the three varieties producing 500.000 ova. So far not one brown trout egg had been procured, a thing that had not occurred previously. This had to be attributed very largely to the mild and dry season.—Received. The Game Committee reported the receipt of a letter from the Department of Internal Affairs, enclosing warrants appointing Eneas George Armstrong, of Becks, a ranger under the Animals Protection Act and the Fisheries Act. The Angling Committee recommended that the Rainbow trout at Opoho be removed to Sulivan's Dam, when the dam was

The Marine Department had written stating that it could not sec its way to prohibit netting at the months of the Shag. Waikouaii, and Waitnti Rivers. ■ The committee recommended that this be hold over pending the receipt of a copy of Mr Ayson's report, which bho department hud been asked to forward. The Southland Society had written offering the use of its traps in the Mararua stream for one week from the 24th insfc. and thereafter every alternate week. The Nelson Society had written ordering 500,000 brown trout ova, and the Taranaki Society had written ordering 50,000 Loch Lover, eyed ova. The committee recommended that Mr Black bo engaged to go to Ilawea to strip Rainbow fish, nnd hatch out the ova on the spot.—With regard to netting at the mouths of the Shag. Waikoufliti, and Waitati Rivers, the President said that when the society received a copy of Mr Ayson's report they might proceed further in the matter. lie thought they should ask the Anglers' Association to help them to get up a petition to the department —A remark was made that all the rivers might be thrown open for netting.—The report was adopted. The Women's Patriotic Asociation wrote thanking the society for its donation of £25 to the funds of the association.

It was decided to open blocks XXXIIT, XXXIV, and XXXV, in the Makarorn district for shooting: one gun for each block; and to keep block XXXVI closed in the meantime. The council having been informed that the Tokomairiro River was being polluted by water discharged from the Bruce Woollen Mills, it was decided to write to the company asking what steps had been taken, or were being taken, to remedy the matter.
