THE WHITE PLAGUE
LONDON, July 9. At the Tuberculosis Conference at Leeds, Sir William Osier declared that 90 per cent, of the people have a small area of tuberculosis. When all workers had a living wage, when houses became real homes, and when the nation spent on food what is now spent on drink, millions of human beings would become immune. An inspector of factories asserted that dry-sweeping the floors was more objectionable than expectorating.
