SUSPECTED DYNAMITE PLOT
NEW YORK, August 21
Some sticks of dynamite were found outside Mayor Gaynor’s office at the City Hall, indicating, it is said, a plot against his life. The police scout this theory. August 22.
The quantity of dynamite found in Mayor Gaynor’s office was sufficient to wreck the City Hall. Mr Gaynor remained calmly at his desk while the police drew a cordon around.
Faulty arrangements in regard to the fuse alone prevented a terrible disaster. The police believe that there was a plot against Mr Gaynor, but another theory is that careless workmen engaged in some adjacent excavations left the dynamite around.
