RECIPROCAL TRADE

CANADA AND THE WEST INDIES. OTTAWA, April 5. The West Indian Trade Conference ie reported to have resulted favourably. There are to be sweeping tariff changes between Canada and the West Indies, the reciprocity being on a most extensive scale. The Indian delegates believe that the new area opened to their products will enable them to be independent largely of the United States markets. Arrangements for improved cable and shipping communication are now pending, and it is hoped that Jamaica will enter. Hitherto the colony has feared United States reprisals if it made a trade agreement with Canada. TORONTO, April 7. The preference agreement, which is of wide scope, has been drafted. It confers substantial advantages on Canada and the West Indies, and provides for improved transport and cables.
