OTAGO AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL SOCIETY
The monthly meeting of the committee jof the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral ; Society, held on the 2nd inst.. was attended i by Messrs A. S. Orbell, president (in the ! chair), J. A. Roberts, T. T. Ritchie, E. I F. Duthie, J. Allan, A. Johnson, J. Ross, ' F. Freeman, G. H. Gilroy, D. Murray, ! John Elliott, J.. Loudon, W. Shennan, Jaa. ; Smith, and J. Maeandrew. In connection with recent deaths, the committee passed the following motion : " That this meeting deeply regrets the death of Mr Chas. S. R<nd, for many | years a member of this committee, and i wishes to express its sincere sympathy ! with his widow and family in the great j loss they have sustained; also to record j with regret the recent death of Mrs j Charters, widow of the late Mr Robert j Charters, a former governor of this socij ety; and also the death of Mr John Dow, jof West Taieri, for many eyars a member of this society and a prominent exI hibitor." A resolution of sympathy was passed ! with Mr E. R. Bowler in reference to his | recent accident, and the hope was exI pressed that he would soon be back among I the members of the committee. | A letter was received from the National I Sheep Breeders' Association. London, stat- ] irtg the tlia thirteenth International Con- ■ ference of Sheep Breeders would take ; place on July 1, at the Mansion House, i Doncaster, England. The letter further | stated that at the conference a paper would be read by Mv Alfred Manseli on i " Sheep in connection with the economy i of the farm as a fertiliser or a manure distributor, especially on somewhat poor j land, and its position as a help to suc- ' ccesful farming."—The question of ap- ■ pointing a delegate to attend was left | in the handa of the executive. Some discussion took place upon the ! ram fair that had been held during the i day, and it was unanimously decided that, ! owing to the satisfactory results accruing from the stipulations laid down by ; the association in regard to it, the fair i should be continued in future years on \ similar lines. I The judges in the various sections in 1 connection with the forthcoming Winter i Show were nominated. A considerable I amount of detail business relating to the I coming Winter Show, which opens in Dunedin on June 4, was dealt with, j Eight new members were elected.
