A MEMORY.
I sit alone in the gloaming, And watch clouds flit o'er the sky; I hear the stream's low moaning, I think of you, and sigh. My heart is sad within me, Fas!; flow my useless tears; I think of you, and memory Takes me back to bygone years. I gaze at a star far above me. The first bright sta/r of night; It looks so cold, yet lovely, To iny sad and tear-dimmed. sight. I wonder if in that realm above Your heart still beats for me, Or is there no bright helm of love Gliding o'er that shoreless sea? Night has fallen, the shadows creep on; I rise; how dark is the sky! _ I look for my star; ah, me! 'tis gome; I shudder, and turn with a sigh, —L. H.
