THE WORLDS CHAMPIONSHIP.

ASPIRANT IN BLENHEIM. Dr 11. T. J. Thacker has been informed of an aspirant for the sculling championship of the world, Arthur Jackson, a membsr of the Blenheim Rowing Club. Dr Thacker told a Lyttelton Time 3 reporter on Wednesday evening that there had been a good deal said about a " dark horse " in the northern part of the South Island, and Jackson was evidently tho man referred to. Although Jackson has only recently commenced sculling, he has made such progress that be has been celected to row No. 3 in the Blenheim Club's senior four at the next amateur championships, and he will compete in the amateur single sculling championship. If he is successful in this race it is understood that ho wild challenge the world's champion. A prominent supporter of rowing in Blenheim has undertaken to contribute £SOO towards Jackson's expenses in contesting the championship. Dr Thacker spoke of the possibility of Jackson competing at Ihe Akaroa regatta. He said that the offer which he had made to tho Akaroa Club to providc/£SO for a sculling race still held good, and there was a possibility of Pearoe, Webb, Whelch, tho two Artists, and Jackson attending the regatta. Dr Thacker said that .he would mako his own conditions for the event, but it would probably be a two-mile handicap race. If no race was provided at tho next regatta, he would increase the prize to £IOO for the following year.
