ARNST v. BARRY.

(Fsou Ora Own Oseespondekt.) LONDON, September 16. An incident which is said to happened in connection with the World's Sculling Championship Race on the Zambesi 'has just leaked out in the sporting clubs here,, and deserves to bo inquired into by sportsmen in New Zealand. It is/said that a pereon from New Zealand, who was at Livingstone with sonTS" credentials which gained him treatment as a pressman, made a proposal with a view to *" squaring" one or both of the conipetitore, so that an indecisive result might ba arrived at, and so necessitate another race in a different locality. It is stated that the proposal was made to Arr.st that he and his opponent should have an understanding with a view to rowing a dead heat or something of the kind. It was, I believe, actually put into writing and transmitted to a well-known sportsman who took a keen interest in the race. The result was that the alleged journalist was drummed out of the camp, losing all his negatives and other valuables, and the race was rowed, as everyone believed it would be, on the merits of the men, engaged. Arnst is stated to have taken up a very determined' attitude in dealing with the offendar, and it is said that the, English champion was equally indignant when tin© matter came to his ears. In all probability Arnst will not volunteer information about the incident, but New Zealand journalists will be able to disclaim any knowledge of the offender as coming from their ranks.
