BRITAIN AND CANADA
OTTAWA, January 11. In the course of a speech at the Empire Club, Toronto, Mr Fester, ex-Minister of Finance, protested against the impression conveyed my some of Sir W. Laurier’s recent speeches that political fiscal freedom and the power of negotiating treaties should be wrested from Great Britain. Mr Poster maintained that Canada had already as much freedom as was possible. Canada could not have absolute autonomy in respect to international relations without declaring her independence, and if such talk were serious, then it was revolutionary.
