ATLANTIC FREIGHTS
OTTAWA, January 15. A deputation of protest which waited on Sir Wilfrid Laurier stated that there had been an increase in the west-hound Atlantic freights to the extent of 66 per cent, since 1907. •Sir Wilfrid Laurier promised to make an investigation as to whether this meant an illegal combination acting in restraint of trade. If so, it would come under the forthcoming bill to control trusts and combines. If the increase was the result of economic requirements the Government would be unable to interfere.
