IMMIGRANTS IN N.S. WALES

■ «So» SYDNEY, January 12. The Director of the Immigration Bureau states in connection with the reported difficulty of placing the AngloIndians sent by Captain Holden that no trouble exists so far as the Government system is concerned. On Monday 339 assisted immigrants landed from the steamers Orvieto and Marathon, all of whom were placed on farms before nightfall at the highest rates of wages. The State could absorb increased shipments of skilled agricultural immigrants. The bureau had found work for a number of Captain Holden’s Anglo-Indians. The trouble over the others was their unfitness for or unwillingness to take the work offering. The Government is providing for Captain Holden’s impecunious Anglo-Indians, but at the same time it has advised the Immigration League to take immediate steps to prevent further shipments, and considers that Captain. Holden’s action in sending unsuitable men deserves severe censure.
