j Brighton, the favourite .seaside revert, j , was en fete on Year's Day, wh-en the ■ annual sports were held on the Do- ' ( main FJat. There was a fair at- ' tendance of vioitors, but owing no doubt to- the inclemency of the 1 weather, which for tha most part^sof the 1 day was very cold and threatening, the '' attendance on the gvour.d was net co Ja.ige 1 as on other occasions. Quite a laige number were esinaped along the eandhiUs wherever a quiet, sheltered ncok could be got, and round about the township looked quite busy with small parties here and there. A number of local pipers were present, and discoursed pips music to the evideni dalight ar.d satisfaction of the Highland residents, who were present in fcico. The whole of the proceedings \ver> managed by a strong and energstic committee, headed by the president of the icciety (Mr C. Samson, cen.), who was ably assisted by the j worthy secretary (Mr J."
