Bidding was very brisk for each lot offered, and although for this sale we had no extia heavy hides forward, poodconditioned medium and light-weight hides ir^edium-weight ox hides, s|d to 6^d ; light, from 4d to 4Jd; cow hidee— beet medium weights to 4Jd; ordinary, 4d to 4|d ; light, from 3|d to 4d; yearling, from 3|d to 4d ; calfskins — sojind s^d to 6d, cut and damaged 3|d to 4±d per lb; horse hides, from €s 9d to 10s each. ! We had a i very representative catalogue of good hides, and competition was keen for all loifi offered, none being passed in. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Ltd.) report having held their usual fortnightly eale of hides at their stores on Thureoay, when they, submitted a large catalogue. Prices for good stout ox hides were a shade higher than at last ea'.e, and other and lighter sorts maintained fully latte rates. Wehad no exceptionally heavy hides on offer, the bulk of the catalogue comprising butchers' medium-weights and small consignments from country clients. Several of thesa small consignments showed a want of care on the part of the flayers, and we would strongly impress on clients the necessity cf caro being taken with the stripping of their beasts, as buyers show an inclina- j tion to stand off any cut lots on offer.
