GRAIN AND PRODUCE REPORT.

Messrs Donald Reid and Co. (Ltd.) report : — \Va held our weekly auction sale of grain and produce at our stores on Monday. Our catalogue comprised a fair quan-' tity of oats and fowl wheat with a larger offering of potatoes and chaff than usual. The attendance of buyers was small, and the saie P r ° v €cl somewhat slow. Values j ruled a3 under : — ' Oats. — The market is in. a stagnant condition, and no sales of any importance are passing. Shippers' ordeis ara only on a /cry smail scale, and in most cases j they hold sufficient stocks to supply same, ; so that new business hes been of late im- j possible. We quote:— Prime milling, 2s; | good to b3at feed, Is lOd to Is lid ; inferior 1 to medium, Is 8d to Is 9d per bushel, | sacks extra. J Wheftfc. — Prime milling lines continue ! to have ready salo to millers. Medium ! quality is -not 00 much sought after, but J as fowl wheat is scares lower grades of milling find an, cutlet to supply feed orders. ( \alues for all sorts are well maintained. 1 We quote:— Prime milling, '4s- 4£d to te sd; | medium, 4-s cd: whole fowl wheat. 4s 3d j to 4« 4d; medium, 4s to 4a 2d; 'broken j a.»d - damaged, 3s 3d to 3s lOd per bushel, j sacks extra. ~ \ Potatoes.— There was fair export demand during last, week, and . nearly . all sound, weil-pkked lcti ■ ooming forward { were quitted on arrival. The demand has : now slackened considerably, and m con- ; sequence "or iocs' show a decline of aboyfc lGs per ten. ' In the case of many consign-- j inents the quality of the sacks militates ; considerably against the sale for export, | and frequently it has been imperative to j r^bag potatoes before they would be as- 1 c^pted for shipment. W© quote:— Beet Up- ; to-Dates, £2 17s 6d to £3; a few ohcace, to ; £3 ss; medium to good, £2 &s to ±£ 15s. , Derwents are not inquired for by exporters, ; and are eakable locally at about the same ! price as Up-to-Da-tes. Chaff.— The market is well supplied, and i only test quality has any attention. This j sells locally at about late quotations, while ( even at a" considerable reduction inferior , qualities cannot be cleared. We quote:— j Best oaten sheaf, £3 15s to £3 17s 6d; choice, to £4; medium to good, £3 to *,*> f ICh per ton. bags extra. ; Straw.— The market has been more fully | supplied with oftten, which sells at 455, while wheaten has been in over supply, ana has receded to 35s per ton. Messrs Dalgety and Co. (Ltd.) report a« j follows:— We held out usual weekly auction eate of graia and produce at cur stores on Monday, when we ©übra-itted a. full catalogue to a. poor attendance of buyers, who were cot ea.ger competitor^ for our offering; a number -of the lots\ having to be passed in pending private sale. The "demand is confined almost entirely to j choLco white tables, Dcrwejits being out of favour. Scabby, roughly grown, inferior, anid small eorts are neglected. Quotations : Extra choice Up-to-Dates, £3 7s 6d ; prime <"o, £3 2s 6d to £3 ss ; medium do, £2 15s I to £3; inferior, £Z 5s upwards per ton 1 (oacks in).
