Auckland defeated Thames by 5 goals to • nil in their fifth -challenge* match for tho New Zealand Hockey Association cham--pienship shield at Remuera on Saturday. The Auckland team gave a first-rate display. Mason, who was well fed by his ' supports, notched 4- goals, while Barry obtained the other. An unprecedented ' interest is being displayed in the Welling- • ton-Atickland Hockey Shield match, whichwill be- played 1 at Victoria Park on September 5, and, provided the weather be fine, a record attendance for a hockey match in New Zealand is assured. The Auckland team are sparing no efforts to retain the trophy.
