Fridat, March 6. (Before Mar H. Y. Widdowson. S.M.) Breach of the Licensing Act. — William Barr Allen, licensee of the Marine Hotel, pleaded '* Guilty " to a charge of permitting drunkenness on his licensed, premises, and to supplying a person in a state of intoxication with liquor on January 27. — Mr A. C. Hanlon (fox the licensee) explained that his client was absent in Dunedin on the day mentioned, but that the barmaid supplied the liquor. Mr Allen had warned her to be careful not to serve anyone who was the worse for drink. — Defendant was fined £4, with 7s costs, and solicitor's fee of £2 2a. — Mr Burnard appeared for the owner of the house. Procuring Liquor. — James Telfer was charged with procuring liquor for Mungo Kirkwood, a prohibited person, on February 28. — The police gave evidence showing that Karkwood was seen waiting in a shed in the dark. Hall was charged with entering licensed premises at Waitatd during the currency of a prohibition order.— He pleaded "Not guilty," an 3 said that he had only gone into the hotel yard. — Sergeant Mullany brought evidence to show that accused had been in the hotel bar, where he failed to obtain liquor.— Accused was fined £2 with costs. W. Keenan, for a breach of a prohibition order was fined £2.
