STATISTICAL RETUENS. WELLINGTON, May 11.
The Customs revenue collected in the colony during the March quarter of the year totalled £738,433, as compared with £697,187 for the corresponding quarter of 1905. Chief items were : —Spirits, £119,682; manufactured tobacco, £88.895; sugar. molasses, and treacle, £58,986; goods by weight— general tariff £48.024, preferential tariff £1792; goods ad valorem— general tariff £325,145, preferential tariff £12.953; wines, £8913; ale, beer, etc.. £5301; tea. £152. The excise duties collected amounted to £26,623, against £25,921, t?^e principal item being beer, £25,875. Details of the colony's trade for the quarter ending March 31 are given in last night's Gazette. The following are the principal items, with the figures for the corresponding quarter of 1905 in parentheses. The total value of the imports was £3.874.624 (£3,517,429). Of this total the United Kingdom contributed £2,428,311 (£2,160.940) ; Victoria, £281,121 (£196,416) ; New South Wales, £400,634 (£284.517); South Australia. £13.779 (£9144) ; Tasmania, £13,036 (£13,275); Fiji. £32,772 (£47.698); Bengal, £115,605 (£139,625) ; Ceylon, £43.770 f£37,997); Singapore. £10,310 (£9558); Canada, £21,445 (£19,054): British Columbia. £10,848 (£7527); France. £16,303 (£16.663); Germany, £75,647 (£71,247); Belgium, £28,676 (£23,106); United States £308,958 (£420,110); Japa,n, £17,999 (£14,259). The figures for th<> rirue-f ports are: — Auckland £890,011 (£731,729); Wellington. £1,204,738 (£1,083.911): Lyttelton and Christchurch, £654,770 (£605,293); Dunedin, £618,551 (£606,911). The value of the exports for the quarter was £7,097,732 (£6.4f6.350). The principal ? laces to which they were sent were : — Jnited* Kingdom, £6,007.706 (£5,568.483) : Victoria, £212.991 (£210.602); New South "Wales, £469.792 (£276,194); South Australia. £8499 (£8414): West Australia, £13,916 (£8337) ; Fiji, £13,470 J£8846): Cape Colony. £2680 (£3447) ; Natal, £19.122 (£26.047): Hongkong. £2851 (£/085); British Columbia. £4104 (£1727); France. £38,329 (£47,544); Germany, £28 : 741 (£11705)- Belsjium, £9599 (£5102): Unired States. £240,125 (£244,698); Navigator Islands, £10,126 (£9195).
