Notes from Alexandra.
(From Oue Own Coreespokdent.) ■ALEXANDRA SOUTH, August 23. After a- spell of -very fine weather for some weeks, we have experienced a very cold snap to-day, as severe as^atjy we have had through th« whole winter — squally wind in the town and «now on the hills. The glass is now rising again. The river is at about 4ft 3in : above normal mark. Mining- matters are very quiet. TKe erection of the elevator for the Alexandra Lead Company is at a standstill owing to some of the 'gear scot having arrived yet. All the -other dredges above the bridge are -forking steadily. Dorm the gorge the Manuherikia^ and~3?irst Chance dredges are working. .
