Notes From Cromwell.
{From Ottb Own Correspondent.) ! CROMWELL, August 23. ! The_ weather is cold, with snow showers on the hills. The river is at a- very low level. The Halfway House dredge started dredging on Tuesday night. The Alpine Consols dredge is still on rich ground, and should have a much better return than last -week. The crust seems to have cut out, and the dredge should put up - some good returns now, as there is plenty of river in front of it. The .hangers for the Riley's Beach dredge Have arrived, but the crew . are delayed in getting the ladder up, as the tackle broke sev«ial time when lifting. Everything should ba ready by the end *of the week. The Hartley and Riley dredge is working on maiden ground, but I believe it is too deep for the dredge to bottom.
