SIRES OF THE SEASON.

Amongst the . stallions -vrhich are out for a bid for patronage this season from the owners of brood mares is Casket, the handsome son of Castor and Bangle, which has Achieved high honours both on the turf and in the show ring. Whilst on the turf Casket proved himself a racehorse above ordinary merit, by scoring over all distances. As a two-year-old he ran second to Bluefir© in the C.J.C. Champagne Stakes, and' the following year won the D.J.C. Presidents' Handicap, nine lurlangs; the Dmiedin Cup, suosovs, one mile and threequarters, in. which he raced with an injured foot.; and the. C.J.C. Great Easter, of 500sovs, seven furlongs, in which foe defeated 15 others, - including Skirmisher, Aldsrshot,' North Atlantio, Hipp emeries. Xady Zetland, Saracen, Beadonwell. and other well-jknown performers. In addition to these wins, Casket displayed excellent forni in. some of his other races during the year, and was a doss third' in the! Birthday Handicap, won by Saracen, and was beaten by a 'head by. Skirmisher in the Provincial llandicap. Casket -did <very little racing after "his three^year-old season as a result of the injuries he met during that year. but ihe scored again as a :five-year-old, and then took up stud duties. Since then the eon of Bangle, -although not receiving many opportunities, hos sired several winners in Hed Start, Heirloom, Casque, Jewel Case, Witch Winnie, Cairn, and one or two others. "Casket is a handsome dapple bay, jrith black points, and has excellent breeding credentials. He was got by Castor, Bire of Record Reign. Armilla, Astronomer. Altair, Day Star, Coronet, Cravat, and many other high-class horses. Casket's dam, Bangle, was a -daughter of the worldfamous Musket, who is one V>f the best sires that can be found in the Stud Books, and 1 Ims granddani.
