OTAGO FARMERS HORSE BAZAAR.

The Otago Farmers' Co-operative Association of New Zealand (Limited) report : — We held our usual weekly sale of horses at our bazaar adjoining "Wool and Grain Stores, Crawford and Vogel streets, and close to railway loading bank We had an entry of 35 draught mares and geldings, van horses, and a few good sorts suitable for plough and farm work generally. Spring-carters were not plentiful. The few we had sold readily at good values, and a good many more could have been placed easily at fair prices. A few good aorts of light harness geldings were on offer, but, being only three-year-olds, were considered a shade too young by-^he buyers present, and in ©rder to effect sales owners had to reduce their reserves, and by so doing a few transactions took place. In the hackney class only a limited number was offered, and sales were also limited. We have inquiries for a few upstanding dog-cart geldings, five to six-year-old, sound", quiet, and stylish. Cart geldings suitable for tip dray and lorry work were wanted, but the number of this sort forward was small, and a ready sale for those offered was the result, which was appreciated by the vendors. A consignment from Mr J. Kerr (of Blairgowrie, Otautau) met with a good market Being good active sorts. and sold subject to trial, there was really no trouble in disposing of horses of this class, the only trouble being that we had not more of the -same sort to offer. Young, sound van geldings were also in demand, and half a dozen more of this sort could have been easily placed at good money. On the whole our sale was a very satisfactory one, and on Saturday next, the 11th inst., we- shall offer 12 cart mares and geldings from Stirling, "warepa, and West Taieri. We quote : Heavy cart mares and geldings, £50 to £60 ; medium, , £i sto £52 ; plough mares and geldings (suitable for four-horse teams), £38 to £45 ; van geldings, £40 to £46; spring-carters, active smart horses, £25 to £30; buggy geldings, £18 to £25; buggy pairs, quiet and good goers, £40 to £55. according to style and quality; dog-cart geldings (with good action and style, | and a fair amount of pace), up to £50; carriage pairs, £80 to £100. The- property known as Balmacewan estate was offered as a whole, but no bids being forthcoming it was offered in lots, for which, however, there were no. bids wnich warranted a sale. A freehold 1 property cat Kew (Oaversham) was also passed in owing io insufficient bidding. Nest in importance to the Market terrace property was the property which the auctioneers finally offered. This consisted of tlio freehold on, which is situated the Crown Hotel, in Rattray street, it being vjart of section 68, block VII, leased for £300 per anntfrn to the occupier of the hotel situated thereon. Richards, tlie present occupier of the building. A sum of £2000 was offered for a property in Maclaggan street containing a quaiter of an acre, with large brick building of chops and offices thereon, also one six and one sevenroomed house, but the price was not accepted. Several <-'ther properties in the same estate were offered, but drew no bids.

The purchasers are to be congratulated on the acquisition of the property, as the country, although rather high, is exceedingly healthy, wellgrassed sheep country. The wool grown is of excellent 'quality, and for many years has realised the highest current rates in the London market.
