June 20. — About 200 persons assembled m -th« public hal! at Calcium on Friday ©venlnsr, 17th inst., their object being to recognise Ike cccasicn of the deparltyre of Mr and Mrs liawr&nce from the district, Mr Lawrence .having recently purchased a farm in the -vicinity of Cer-Lro Bush. The usual toasts were honouiv.d —"The King and Royal Family,*' Mr "W. A. Lyon; "The Local Bodies." Mr J. "Walker; "Our Guests," Mr W. Ford; "Agricultural and Pastoral Interests," Mr G. Chilton, responded to by Mr W. Ford. Son-?? •were successfully rendered at intervals by Miss Brown, Messrs Tumbull, Lawrence, Pope, Bladder, Lindsay, and Shaw, the gem of the ovening being r&ndered by Master- H. Lawrence with the song, "The sunny side of Tennessee." Mr Lawrence's song, "W© rolled home," also came in for commendation. ITavourifce selections on the bagpipes were given by Messrs M'Crostie and Cochrane; selections on the graphaphone, by Mr R. Baird; and* hornpipe by Mr H. Evans, which yras much appreciated. Mr Lyon, in making the presentation, consisting of a tea and «offee service of 40 pieces to Mrs Lawrence, and a gold chain and pendant with a purse of sovereigns to Mr Lawrence, remarked that the assisting committee found their task verjr encouraging owing to the unanimity which existed. Everyon© applied to 3iad responded freely and contributed generously towards the fund — a fact which tended ■. to show the popularity their guests enjoyed . throughout the district. Mr Lawrence, on rising to reply, was greeted with applause. He said he felt that words were not capable of Toicing his emotions with regard 4o the extreme kindness shown by his many ' friends. He could assure them that the valuable presents they had made to his wife and himself would be ever prized as a gteat treasure, and would always remind him of pleasant memories in connection with th& liappy days he had sgent with his many friends of Limestone Plains and surounding •district. He thanked them sincerely from his lieait for the kindness extended to Mrs Lawrence and himself. Th© room bsing cleared, about 50 couples took part in a dance to excellent music, supolied by Miss Macdonald (piano) and Messrs ~Juk« and Moreton (violiu), relieved at intervals by Messrs Rogers, M*Neil, and Piri«. Mr Evans, assisted by Mr Mollison, acted as M.C. Much interest ■was manifested in the Scotch reel, fresh life Ireing infused into several of the old identities, who danced in right good time to the skirl of the bagpipes.
