SOUTHLAND WINS THE INTERPROVINCIAL FOURS.

INVERCARGILL, Fefouary 3.

The Invercargill annual regatta wag held this afternoon, the water being splendid for rowing,. There were no sailing events, those interested in sailing having been conspicuous by their absence from the meeting at which the programme was arranged. The weather was fine but threatening, an-d this no doubt accounted for the falling off in the attendanos, which was not quite so good as in former years. AH the Southland rowing clubs were represented except Awarua, and the Queen's Drive Club (Dunedin) sent both a junior and e-enior crew, the latter also, with one change, representing Otago in the Interprovincial Fours. In this last-mentioned event they wc>re somewhat easily beaten by the Southland crew, who were much younger men. The following arc the results : —

Maiden Fours. One mile. Prizes, £5 aiid £2 Five entries. — Invercargill 1, Xii Ora 2, Railway 3. A splendid race, not more than half a length between ai y of the boats at the finish.

Senior Fours. Two miles. Prizes, £15 and £5. Two entries. — QueenZs Drive 1, Invercargill 2. Another fine Tace, the boats keeping almost abreast all the way, Queen's Drive winning by a quarter of a length.

Junior Sculls. One mile. Prizes, £3 and £1. Two entries— -River-ton (T. S. Mitchell and R. Davies) 1, Invercargill (L. Berndtson and D. Campbell) 2. Won by a length, somewhat easily.

Junior Fours. One mile and a-half. Prizes, £7 and £2. Three entries. — Invercargill 1, Riverton 2. A splendid finish. Won by a few feet.

Youths' Fours. One mile. Prizes, £3 andl JSI. Four entries. — Queen's Drive 1, Invercargill 2. Another fine finish. Won by a few feet.

Maiden Sculls. One mile. Prizes, £3 and; £1. Three entries.— lnvercaorgill (J. Willett and W. Thomson) 1, Riverton (R. Berndtson and P. B. Berndtson) 2, Railway (G. Jaquery and P. C. Shirley) 3. A very poor fiirsh, many lengths separating the boats.
